The Philosophy
Gregg's philosophy as a teacher is that music is important in the creation of the “whole person”, along with math, science, geography, sports, etc. In addition, a background playing a musical instrument greatly enhances a person's appreciation of the fine arts — a lifelong benefit.
Each year a recital is held in the Spring. Performance is optional, but students are strongly encouraged to participate. A reception with food is held after the recital for all musicians, their families, and friends.
Private music lessons have been shown to improve the quality of a student's performance in public and private school bands and orchestras. A number of Mr. Nelson's students play in such groups within the Conroe Independent School District.
